Observation of Election Outreach Class and Student Council Officer Election at Sawara Junior High School by the General Affairs and Policy Standing Committee

Good evening, everyone. I’m Yuta Kato, a member of the Katori City Council.

On September 27, 2024, as part of the jurisdictional investigation by the General Affairs and Policy Standing Committee, I visited Sawara Junior High School to observe an election outreach class conducted by the Katori City Election Management Committee and the student council officer election.

In the election outreach class, through real-life examples and quizzes, the students were given a clear explanation of what elections are and the significance of each vote.

I believe it was a memorable class for the junior high school students, and I hope it serves as an opportunity for them to start thinking about elections and politics in the future.

Afterward, I also observed the student council officer election campaign speeches.

The election was for one student council president and four vice-presidents from both the first- and second-year students. However, since the number of candidates matched the number of positions, the election was conducted as a vote of confidence.

The campaign speeches were filled with the passion of each candidate, and their supporters’ speeches were equally enthusiastic. It was a wonderful speech event.

I hope that the candidates cherish the ideas they expressed in their speeches, as well as those they couldn’t convey, as they take on their responsibilities in student council activities.

After concluding the observation at Sawara Junior High School, I returned to the council where the General Affairs and Policy Standing Committee was convened.

We reflected on the just-completed observation and discussed the future jurisdictional investigations.
